Truly Tan | junior fiction |Claire Robertson – Illustrator | HarperCollins | November 2012
Meet Tan.
She’s funny. She’s lively.
She has the mind of a Great Detective …
Dear Diary
It’s official. Our whole family has moved to the country. the pets are disturbed and restless. My sisters are disturbed and restless – although that’s normal. What is not normal is a cursed fox and a haunted clubhouse. That is definitely unnormal. At least the country people now have an expert in their midst. Someone with a cool head and a sharp eye. Someone who can solve intriguing mysteries and knows how to keep detailed Secret Spy Files.
Really, it’s lucky I came along when I did.

Praise for Truly Tan
This is a thoroughly modern, funny and Australian version of Enid Blyton’s Secret Seven. The plot has enough flesh on it for the upper end of the age group, a dash of peril to keep them on the edge of their seats and even a dog called Awesome.
Great fun for ages 8 to 12.

ABBEY’S BOOKSELLER PICK – “A really delightful story with a sassy, good-hearted character. Highly recommended for ages 8-11.”

My two older daughters loved Truly Tan, and my just seven year old discovered the wonders of Tan Callahan this year. Young Tara (the seven year old) has now given all of her girlfriends a copy of “Truly Tan” for their birthdays (“because it’s the BEST book ever and they HAVE to read it Mummy!!”), and has taken to writing her own journal “Truly Tara” every night.
She also now spends her downtime writing her own adventure books. To say she relates to Tan is an understatement!!
From an adult perspective, any books that encourage kids to read and write are great books. That doesn’t mean adults enjoy reading them too. But as the veterans of a truly ridiculous number of bedtime stories, I have to say that your books are a refreshing change. My husband and I love your writing style and both look forward to hearing our girl read them to us (or to reading bits to her if she’s tired) each night. These books are very well written and highly relatable.
Can’t wait for “Baffled” to come out.
Thanks Jen!
